Five Nights at Freddys (FNAF)

Five Nights at Freddy's is a horror game where you sit in a pizza restaurant's security office and must survive the nights by watching animatronics on cameras while carefully managing your limited power supply for the doors and lights.
In Five Nights at Freddy's, you play as Mike Schmidt, a night security guard at the family-friendly Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. During the day, the adorable animatronics — Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy — perform on stage and entertain the kids. But at night, they roam freely through the restaurant and become deadly threats.
Your goal is to work the night shift from midnight to 6 AM over the course of five nights (plus bonus challenges) without letting the animatronics reach your office. In-game documents and paycheck stubs reveal that the events take place in an old pizzeria with a dark and troubled past.
The core mechanic sounds simple: you stay in one room, watch the cameras, and close the doors in time to survive the night. In practice, it becomes a test of attention, reaction speed, and smart resource management.
How the Gameplay Works
- The Security Office
The entire FNAF experience takes place in a small security office you never leave. In front of you is a panel with:
-
buttons to open and close two doors (left and right);
-
door lights to check whether an animatronic is standing outside;
-
a video surveillance screen with a camera map;
-
a clock (from 12 AM to 6 AM) and a power meter.
A fan constantly hums in the office, lights flicker, and occasionally a phone message from the previous guard plays — explaining the basic rules and hinting at the strange things that go on in the pizzeria.
- Security Cameras
Cameras are placed throughout the pizzeria, and you switch between them using the tablet. They show:
-
the stage where Freddy, Bonnie, and Chica start the night;
-
the hallways leading to your office;
-
the kitchen, where sounds are more frequent and the video feed may be unavailable;
-
Pirate Cove, where Foxy hides.
You constantly switch back and forth between the office and the cameras — checking where the animatronics are, figuring out who's getting closer, and deciding when to shut the doors.
- Power and the Risk of a Blackout
Every action in the office drains power:
-
checking the cameras;
-
turning on the door lights;
-
closing the doors themselves.
You have a single shared power supply for the entire night, and when it runs out, everything shuts down: the lights go dark, the doors open, and the monitors go black. The office is plunged into darkness, and soon after, Freddy appears — he plays the "Toreador March," slowly approaches you, and the night ends with a jumpscare.
This is what makes the game so tense: you can't just keep the doors closed all night — you simply don't have enough power. You have to conserve every percent, deciding when to check the cameras and when it's better to wait and listen.
- The Animatronics: Who's Hunting You
- Freddy Fazbear
Freddy is the bear mascot and the face of the pizzeria. In the early nights he's barely active, but later he starts moving whenever you're not watching his camera and can circle around you using hidden routes. He's usually the biggest threat in the later nights and will show up if your power runs out.
- Bonnie
Bonnie is a purple/blue rabbit and one of the most active animatronics. He's typically the first to leave the stage and makes his way toward you through the left side of the pizzeria, appearing in the hallways and at the left office door. You'll quickly learn to check the left side more often and flick on the left light so you don't miss the moment he's about to strike.
- Chica
Chica is a yellow animatronic chicken wearing a bib that reads "Let's Eat!!!" She moves through the right side of the pizzeria and shows up on the right cameras before eventually appearing at the right door. Players need to keep an eye on the right-side cameras — it's easy to miss that Chica is already standing right at the door.
- Foxy
Foxy is a pirate fox who lurks inside Pirate Cove. At the start of the night, he's hidden behind a curtain — but if you don't check his camera often enough, he starts peeking out and eventually sprints down the left hallway toward your office. His attack is marked by a loud bang on the left door; after that, he retreats back to Pirate Cove, but not before draining a significant chunk of your power.
- Golden Freddy
Golden Freddy is a rare, secret animatronic. He appears under specific conditions — such as certain camera glitches or posters — and his face suddenly materializes in the office, triggering a jumpscare. For players, this is one of the most memorable Easter eggs in the game.
Nights, Difficulty, and Extra Modes
The game is divided into night-based levels, each lasting around 8–10 minutes of real time.
-
Night 1. This is the introductory level with calmer animatronic behavior: Freddy barely moves, Bonnie and Chica are slow, and Foxy may not activate at all as long as you don't ignore him for too long.
-
Nights 2–3. The animatronics become more aggressive — you're rarely idle, constantly switching between the stage, hallways, and Pirate Cove, closing doors more frequently, and watching your power.
-
Nights 4–5. The difficulty spikes noticeably: every extra camera check or door left closed a second too long brings you that much closer to a blackout. Freddy and Foxy demand constant attention, while Bonnie and Chica are practically glued to the doors.
After completing the five nights:
-
the player receives an in-game paycheck;
-
Night 6 unlocks, cranking the difficulty even higher;
-
then comes the Custom Night (Night 7), where you can manually set the aggression level of each animatronic.
Complete the Custom Night at certain settings, and the ending reveals that Mike gets fired — accused of "tampering with the animatronics" and "erratic behavior."
Why This Version Hits Different
The browser version on Elky preserves all the key elements of the original FNAF experience:
-
surviving in one tiny office with no ability to explore the map;
-
mouse-based controls where everything comes down to clicking cameras, doors, and lights at the right moment;
-
a heavy emphasis on sound — footsteps, rustling, children's laughter, kitchen noises — all of which tell you an animatronic is close even when it doesn't show up on camera.
The game builds tension not through constant movement, but through watching and waiting: you stare at the monitor, listen to the silence, and then suddenly notice someone is already at the door. Hesitate even a second before clicking that button, and you're getting a jumpscare — which is why even a single night feels like its own complete challenge.
